In An Ideal Husband story, there is one role that has strict character, Lady Chiltren. She is conservative woman in that era. In that era, Industrial Revolution which second class (entrepreneur or business man/woman) could raise into first class (Aristocrat) everyone should have little bit more modern mindset, not conservative anymore but it did not happen with Lady Chiltren. One of the proves that Lady Chiltren is conservative, when she was so cynical towards Mrs. Cheveley (Laura) whom got married for several times. Lady Chiltren seemed intolerant about what Mrs. Cheveley had did, another proof comes from the script page 21; Lady Chiltren said that “It can never be necessary to do what is not honorable. Robert, to the world as to me, you have been an ideal, always. We women worship when we love. Don’t kill my love for you, don’t kill that! Is there in your life any secret dishonor or disgrace? Tell me, tell me at once, that—“It proves that Lady Chiltren who is conservative never wanted to do something lower middle class.
